Every year the Brisbane suburb of St Lucia sees an influx of overseas students who have enrolled in the university of Queensland, affectionately known as UQ. According to Asiancorrespondent.com, of the 40700 students, some 8700 are overseas visiting students, drawn from 120 countries. The university staff also reflects this diversity, as staff comes from 87 different countries. Given the student numbers , it is hardly surprising that St Lucia is a major university dormitory suburb. Students are advised to think about accommodation early.

Accommodation at UQ Campus

There are ten colleges attached to the main university campus, proving single bedrooms and a choice of fully-catered or non- catered accommodation. There are two colleges that are declared women’s colleges and at least one (King’s) is for men only. One college is called international House, but all colleges , of course, welcome a diverse cohort. The following prices are for 2010 and are meant only as a guide. International House charged $12500 - 14500. Other colleges ranged between $1400 -1700
